How to apply
WE HAVE THREE TIERS OF TEAM SURREY SPORTS SCHOLARSHIPS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF SURREY; POTENTIAL, SCHOLAR AND ELITE SCHOLAR. EACH OFFERS A DIFFERENT LEVEL OF SUPORT WITH ELIGIBILITY FOR EACH TIER BASED ON THE FOLLOWING:
POTENTIAL
Scholars are athletes who compete in development squads or at age-group national level (i.e. Junior European Championships or highest level National League) events in sports with clearly defined NGB performance pathways. Sports must be a BUCS competition and either a UK Sport funded or Commonwealth Games sp
To be eligible for this tier you must be able to present evidence for all of the following:
- Participate in a sport recognised by Sport England (see here for more details)
- Evidence of involvement in your chosen sport, providing dates of events and results in the past 12 months
- Enrolment on to a University of Surrey course for 2019/20
- Represent the University in BUCS competitions where applicable
- 2 Sporting References
Scholar
Scholars are athletes who compete in development squads or at age-group national level (i.e. Junior European Championships or highest level National League) events in sports with clearly defined NGB performance pathways. Sports must be a BUCS competition and either a UK Sport funded or Commonwealth Games sport
To be eligible for this tier you must be able to present evidence of the following:
- Meet all Potential Level criteria
- Evidence of pathway/development squad involvement within the last 12 months being referenced through NGB website/ranking list and/or information from NGB or Club/Coach
- Represent the University in BUCS competitions as applicable
ELITE SCHOLAR
Athletes who are competing at an international level in a UK sport funded development pathway or commonwealth event. Some athletes may also have TASS funding which will work alongside the Team Surrey scheme.
To be eligible for this tier you must be able to present evidence of the following:
- Meet Potential and Scholar criteria
- Demonstrate excellence in your chosen sporting activity at International level in the last 12 months with clear evidence showing events, results and selection for squads
- Represent the University in BUCS competitions as applicable
Scholar Expectations
Whilst Team Surrey aims to offer student athletes support with both their sporting and academic careers, the sports scholarship program is very much a two way process those selected playing an active part in the Team Surrey community throughout the year. Individuals on the scholarship are expected to:
· Be an integral part of all BUCS activities for your sport, show leadership qualities and deliver high levels of performance
· Act as a Team Surrey ambassador at all times promoting University Sport & Activity
· Attend events or activities as requested by Team Surrey
· Become dedicated and active members of your chosen Team Surrey Club
· Continually develop as a student athlete
