Team Surrey and scholar athlete Emma Oliver was selected to represent the England Touch Rugby team at this summer’s World Cup in Nottingham, UK. Emma and the team came away with a brilliant bronze medal and Emma had this to say: “After the previous World Cup as a team, we sat down and set out the goal to achieve a medal at the 2024 World Cup. Now coming away having achieved this was really a testament to how hard my teammates, the staff and everyone behind the scenes has worked. A World Cup feels so different because you only get one shot every 4 years, so you’ve really got to make it count and it’s still pretty surreal that we did that”. Congratulations to Emma and her team mates on a fantastic achievement.
Emma graduated from the University this summer after four remarkable years on the scholarship programme supported both by the Dual Career Programme and the Ede and Ravenscroft Scholarship. Throughout her time at Surrey, Emma exemplified the qualities of a top-tier student-athlete, excelling not only in her sport but also in her academic pursuits. Her commitment, perseverance, and outstanding performance set a high standard for her peers and became a cornerstone of the scholarship programme. Emma’s contributions extended beyond the field, as she consistently demonstrated leadership and represented Team Surrey and E&R with pride and distinction. Her journey through the programme is a testament to her exceptional talent and character, leaving an enduring legacy that will inspire future scholars for years to come. Emma’s time at Surrey has been nothing short of brilliant, and we look forward to seeing how Emma’s sporting career continues to progress.
