Surrey Alum Hits the International Stage

A University of Surrey alum recently stepped up to the international stage at the qualifiers for the 2019 Pan American Games.

Emma Keane, a previous sports scholar at the University, jetted off to the Cayman Islands to represent Bermuda in squash at the tournament.

Having bested fellow trialists, Keane was selected as the no.1 seed for the nation as they made their first appearance in the competition.

Keane played an integral role throughout the tournament as Bermuda placed 11th out of the 20 competing nations, unfortunately just missing out on qualification for the 2019 Games.

We caught up with Keane following her return to Surrey to chat about her time with the national team.

"It was an incredible experience for all of us and a real honour representing Bermuda at such prestigious games."

"I have represented Bermuda internationally since I was 10, and it has always been something I'm very proud of." Keane added.

Keane has recently taken on a coaching role at Surrey Sports Park for the Team Surrey Squash Club, and was quick to praise all the support she has received in her time there whilst at the University.

"Surrey Sports Park has been integral in my squash development throughout the years, particularly the support of Jesse Englebrecht, Jordan Niblock and Mark Garfoot."

"Having been a part of the Club during my time at the University I've seen it grow and develop, and I am so excited to still be a part of that and to continue supporting the club."

Team Surrey would like to congratulate Emma on her achievements, and we hope she can continue to excel in her new coaching role.
