A University of Surrey student and alum recently made history at the FISU World University Rowing

Championships in Shanghai. Harry Glenister and George Stewart were part of a Great Britain team that secured six gold and one silver medal, the best rowing result the team has ever achieved.

Stewart, current student and sports scholar, was part of the gold medal winning Men's Eight crew, whilst Surrey graduate Glenister secured gold in the Men's Pair.

This the latest in a series of spectacular achievements for the Team Surrey Boat Club who have enjoyed an incredible 12 months.

Stewart and Ali Douglass picked up gold in the M2- at BUCS Regatta in May, while Head Coach Sam Tuck was awarded UK Coaching Young Coach of the Year in December 2017.

We spoke to Team Surrey Boat Club's President, Sophie Hossack, about the Club's latest success story.

"To have representation of the Club at the World University Rowing Championships is a massive achievement and for both George and Harry to bring home gold medals is a huge success.

"It is a demonstration of how the club has progressed; and a true testament to the boys' hard work. Harry and George lead by example and seeing them achieve amongst such a high standard of rowing is a real motivation."

Team Surrey would like to congratulate both medallists on their achievements, and we can hopefully celebrate more successes in the coming months.
