Mixed Lacrosse Win National Bronze

Mixed Lacrosse Win National Bronze

On Saturday 2nd of March the Mixed Lacrosse Team travelled to Imperial to compete in the annual Imperial Cup. Providing one of the only tournaments for mixed lacrosse over 15 clubs and universities entered seeking the coveted trophy. Many teams fielded international players representing England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland, highlighting the high standard of play. Mixed Lacrosse is women’s lacrosse rules but played by a mixed gender team. Fielding 17 players (including 10 who only took up the sport here at Surrey) highlights the growth and success of the club in the past few years.

Winning all our pool games, through torrential rain, we progressed to the knockouts. Following an extremely competitive quarter final against London City we continued to face Bath in the semi-final. Despite some excellent attacking play and solid defence, we fell short against a strong side who progressed to place 2nd. Our bronze medal match pitted us against Bristol University who despite their best efforts couldn’t stop us. Winning 3-1 was an excellent finish to a competitive day of lacrosse. Thank you to our manager Thalia Tzokas for organising the team, captain Nick Thomson for leading us to bronze and to the team for providing a great standard and a really fun day. Our sights are on Silver next year!
