MONTHLY STATISTICS

Our SurreyMoves+ users produced another fine month of physical activity with more steps walked, metres swam and miles cycled in June compared to May! Despite term coming to an end, we still also saw 66 new users join the SurreyMoves+ community ahead of the summer break.

TOTAL DONATION TO ALZHEIMER'S SOCIETY!

We are thrilled to say we are donating a grand total of £750 to Alzheimer’s Society following the generosity of our SurreyMoves+ users who redeemed points through our donation reward in June. For every 500 points redeemed through the donation reward, we gave £1 to help support Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month. Visit the Alzheimer’s Society website for more information on the charity’s fantastic work. A big thank you to everyone who contributed their points!

We launched new sets of challenges at the start of the month, and there’s still time to sign up and earn some bonus points on the app! CHIARA DE LUCIA

WHAT IS YOUR ROLE/WHAT COURSE DO YOU DO?
“I am doing a PhD in Physics, in particular in the radiation and medical physics group.”

WHY DID YOU APPLY TO BE A MOVES MOTIVATOR?

“I really enjoy sports and being active. I would love to share my enthusiasm about sport and I am always looking for new people to meet and do sport with.

“I know for personal experience that often not exercising derives from not having anyone motivating you, thinking not to have the strength, not to have the knowledge or the right body for doing sports. These are things that can be overcome when meeting active people or people that would like to get active with you. We all can be active at our own level, pace and time. I am keen to meet other Motivators and work together to help people staying active.”

WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT MOVES?

“I like that motivates you though points and prices, and mostly with challenges.”

HAS MOVES IMPACTED YOUR PHYSICAL ACTIVITY LEVELS AND HOW?

“It made me think more about how many steps I was taking per day and increase my motivation to take a daily walk/run after or before work.”

WHAT DO YOU LIKE DOING PHYSICAL ACTIVITY-WISE?

“My favourite activity is hiking and trekking for sure, even if here is more like walking in nature since the mountains are just hills! But the sensation of reaching a peak overwhelms me every time. Moreover, I am into running, climbing and I am used to working out at home. I am always keen to try out new sports!”

WHAT ARE YOUR TOP TIPS FOR BEING PHYSICALLY ACTIVE?

“Remembering the empowering feeling you have after an activity and using that as a motivation for the next one. Also, trying to find people with the same interests and motivating each other as well as setting some small daily goals and increasing them when you feel up to it.”

WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO ACHIEVE THROUGH BEING A MOVES+ MOTIVATOR?

“To understand what prizes would better motivate people to use the app and get points. Also, to organise a running group to stay motivated together as this would allow people to meet other runners with their own pace. And finally, Social walks and hikes as we all need to be active and meet new friends after months of lockdown.”

SURREYMOVES+ SURVEY FINDINGS

Back in May, we asked our SurreyMoves+ users to complete a feedback survey based on their experiences on the app. We were delighted to receive so much positive feedback and we will also be using the responses to help us improve elements of the platform ahead of the new academic year.

Here are some of the key statistics we learned from the survey…

  • 98% of our respondents stated that the Moves+ app has encouraged them to be more physically active.
  • 88% of respondents said they would be likely to recommend SurreyMoves+ to a friend or colleague.
  • Rewards are the feature of the app which encourages users to be more active (47%) and motivates them the most (54%). We also discovered that challenges have a considerable impact on users’ motivation to move more often.
  • 57% of users track with Apple Health while 19% use Google and 16% use FitBit.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to complete the survey!
