It might be the summer break but SurreyMoves+ users continued to rack up the points ahead of the return to campus in September! July produced some stable numbers across walking, running, cycling and swimming – plus, we saw 35 new users sign up to the app.
We are delighted to say that we have surpassed 3,000 SurreyMoves+ users since the last newsletter! Our current total stands at 3,032 users. This is an amazing milestone to surpass and our thanks must go to all University of Surrey students and staff who have joined our online community since we re-launched last September.

Everyone in the SurreyMoves+ team is now excited to keep driving up this number when new and returning students arrive back in Surrey next month.

Once again, we’ve launched some new challenges and rewards this month – and there’s still time to get involved!

Remember, activity is tracked from when you join the challenge so make sure you join as soon as possible for the best results. Don’t forget there are also activity-specific challenges available within Groups throughout August.

Here’s what’s available…

Hadrian’s Wall Challenges

These walking and cycling challenges ask you to travel the 73-mile length of the famous northern landmark. You will get 110 bonus points if you can cycle the distance and a mega 235 extra points up for grabs if you can walk it. These challenges will only run until the end of the month so make sure you join as soon as you can!

Olympics Challenges

The Olympics may have now come to an end but there is still time to get involved in our walking, running, cycling and swimming challenges. Head to the app to view what’s available before August 31st!

We’ve now got some exciting new Surrey Sports Park passes available as rewards this week. There are Gym Passes, a Swim Passes and Surrey Summit Climbing Passes waiting to be claimed for 7,500, 2,400 and 5,000 points respectively.

This is a fantastic opportunity to use your points to sample the world-class facilities on your doorstep at SSP!

In this new feature, we’ll be sharing a new exercise trails in the local area every newsletter. To kick us off, we’re starting with a route just outside Guildford…

Step just outside of Guildford to explore the local section of the Surrey Hills AONB. On this moderate trail at 13.0km, take in all the views, wildflowers, and local livestock. Start at Shalford Mill before going clockwise around the route to avoid any muddy climbs. Head up and enjoy the views of St. Martha’s Hill before going across to Newlands Corner for a coffee or food at the café. Then head down to Pilgrim’s Way before heading west and back across St. Martha’s Hill. Next, go south for the Chilworth Gunpowder Works and Gunpowder Mills Fishery. Finally, loop back round to the start point and complete your circular route at Shalford Mill.

The Olympics drew to a close on Sunday after 16 days of exciting competition out in Tokyo, and Team GB enjoyed a successful Games by finishing fourth in the medal table with 65 medals in total.

We took a look to see how our Moves+ users got on with their activity across the duration of the Olympics, whether this be through participation in our Olympics challenges or general activity on the app. Here are the final statistics…

  • 3,498 miles ran
  • 4,017 miles cycled
  • 119,108,011 steps walked
  • 118,384 metres swam

Thank you to everyone who contributed to these numbers during the two-week period and we hope the Olympics inspired you to increase your physical activity!
