Surrey Saxons reached the BUCS Baseball Nationals this season for the first time in their five years of being a Team Surrey club.
The team enjoyed their most successful baseball season to date as they won three of their five league matches to earn a spot in the Finals event at Farnham Park where they played some of the best University teams in the UK.
Saxons faced Swansea University, University of Central Lancashire and University of Nottingham in the Finals and, although they didn’t win any matches this time around, they put in a good fight and can learn from the experience when they return,
Here are some special mentions from the Saxons…
“Aditya Gillette, our main pitcher who only joined us this year and stole bases brilliantly; Yohei Hori, our relief pitcher/main catcher who kept up team morale and intimidated the competition; Archie Pepper, our 1st base who got all 3 outs in one inning; and finally, Stephen Megaw, our President who filled in as catcher for our last game with no preparation, played exceptionally and who has been our big hitter for the last 4 years. Thank you to all of the Saxons that played this year – time to get ready for Nationals Part 2. LET’S GO SAXONS!!!”
