University of Surrey Mixed Martial Arts Club took their biggest fight team in history to an inter-club event with University of Portsmouth in November, with 18 fighters competing in a total of 21 matches.
The event took place on Sunday 27th November and it represented the first time fighting for all of the 18 competitors as they put the skills they had learnt over the last couple of months to the test.
Each club member had joined the MMA club at the start of the semester as complete beginners and spent every training session putting in hard work to develop their techniques with their Mavericks Academies coaches.
They also took part in extra training with Mavericks and every fighter demonstrated immense skill and dedication to compete in various non-decision fights of kickboxing (K1) and sub-grappling.
MMA club president Tatiyana Gordon said: “It was an amazing day out and the committee is proud of its members for their bravery at taking part in something new and for their excellent performance. In the future, the club hope to enter more members in competitions and build on the experience they are already gaining. Bring on the next competitions!”
