University of Surrey Hockey Club hosted a successful mass participation charity tournament earlier this month at Surrey Sports Park, with the event seeing more than 80 people taking part and over £300 raised for charity.
The participants came from a variety of sports clubs including rugby, football and netball to name a few, and many of the teams were made up of half hockey and half non-hockey players. The tournament provided people with an opportunity to play a sport they may have not played before in a fun but competitive environment.
The charity of choice, Target Ovarian Cancer, is very important to some Hockey club members and they managed to raise over £300 with the help of everyone involved.
Football came away as the overall winners after dominating the group stage with 3 wins out of a possible 3 and managing to beat the tournament favourites on flicks in the final. Down the other end, rugby won the wooden spoon after a 2-1 win against a tricky team.
It was an enjoyable afternoon for everyone that took part with plenty of requests for it to happen again later this year. Watch this space!
