On Saturday 18th May 2019, the current students and Alumni of over 20 of the University’s sports clubs descended on Surrey Sports Park in a bid to be crowned Grad Sport champions 2019.
The event, hosted by Forever Surrey and Team Surrey, was the largest Grad Sport to date, with 370 Alumni and 524 students in attendance. It was a fantastic day of both rivalry and reunion.
The annual event aims to help raise money and awareness for the Forever Surrey Fund, whilst bringing students and Alumni back together for an unforgettable weekend. In 2018 alone, The Forever Surrey fund awarded almost £250,000 to help students in unexpected hardship, those taking business placements and to help our clubs and societies to grow. This has had a huge impact on the lives of countless students at Surrey.
This year we also welcomed the introduction of The Forever Surrey Zone, a lively area full of music, food, drink and activities – some of which were run by members of Team Surrey clubs and societies – to relax before and after fixtures and catch up with old friends.
Grad Sport is a special day for everyone involved. We had a number of alumni from the men’s football club travelling from across the world to attend, and so many of you have said you’ll be back next year to play as Alumni. When speaking to a final year member from the dodgeball club, just one of the many sports who participated, they said “Grad Sport is definitely the highlight of my year because we always have so many graduates come back. The worst part is having to say goodbye to everyone again but I’m so excited to come back and play as Alumni next year!”
At the end of the day, it was announced that the students had taken the win for the second consecutive year – congratulations to everyone who contributed to a big win!
Through your kind donations on the day and in the lead up to the event, we were able to raise almost £500 toward the Forever Surrey Fund. Thank you 💙💛
