Who Is Team Surrey?

So, Who is team SURREY?

It’s everyone.
The students, the staff, the partners, the coaches, the volunteers, the fans, the early risers in the pool and the late-night five-a-siders. Everyone who helps sport and movement thrive across our campus, community and region. Funded by the University, The Students Union and Surrey Sports Park.

But honestly? That undersells it.

Team Surrey isn’t just the people who make sport happen. It’s the symbol of a University that gets it.

That understands how powerful movement, community and wellbeing really are.

It’s what happens when you invest – properly – in a £36m Sports Park with an Olympic pool, a showpiece gym with a wall of cardio machines stretching to the horizon, and astroturf that could make professionals jealous.
It’s the climbing wall, the spectator halls, the padel courts – and yes, the drink and laughs on the way home.

Because Team Surrey is where medal chasers and first-timers sweat it out together.
It was once a badge of serious sporting ambition – and that part is still true. But now, it’s also an invitation.
To everyone who wants to give it a go. To move. To play. To perform. To belong.

It’s about spirit. Connection. The joy of pushing your body (and maybe discovering new muscles the next morning).

It’s not just about sport – it’s about people.

The coaches, the physios, the organisers, the fans on the sidelines and the “I’ll just try this once” crowd.

It’s academic too. The Sports Science programme – top five in the UK – brings serious research rigour, partnering with professionals and students alike in labs, clinics and on the field.

And it’s reaching beyond campus – out into the community.

From kids’ footy camps and SwimFit to mums-and-babies yoga, from school outreach to international tournaments – and, through our Physical Activity Service, partnering with the BHS to help Guildford stay healthier for longer.

It’s grassroots and high performance, side by side.

It’s for the Harlequins, wannabe Harlequins and never-even-heard-of-Harlequins. It’s your kids learning to swim in the same glorious 50m pool as the sleek racers of Guildford City Swim Club. It’s grassroots teams shooting in the same hoops as those chasing BUCS glory. It’s a place where world-class meets just-getting-started.

Team Surrey is all of it.

And if you show up – however you show up – you’re part of it.
