Give yourself a head start with our frequently asked questions.

How many Team Surrey clubs are there and can I start my own?

We currently have 44 sports clubs from American Football to Weightlifting and everything in between. If you would like to set up your own club, let us know and we'll see if we can help you start it up!

Who is the main contact for student sport and activity?

Becky Ibbotson is the currently elected Vice President Activity. Email ussu.vpactivity@surrey.ac.uk, call 01483 683922 or pop into the Students' Union office on campus to get in touch with her. For any specific queries, you can find out about the team on our Contact Us page.

Do I need a Surrey Sports Park membership if I want to join a club?

You have three membership options, all of which entitle you to join a Team Surrey club. Find out about the membership options at teamsurrey.co.uk/membership

What does my Surrey Sports Park membership entitle me to?

Your Surrey Sports Park membership gives you access to the facilities at Surrey Sports Park including:
Health & Fitness Centre, swimming pool, sauna, steam room, group fitness and aqua classes, tennis court bookings, squash court bookings, Surrey Summit climbing centre, off-peak sports arena bookings, 14 day advanced bookings and discounted courses and sessions. It also gives you access to Team Surrey sports club training and competitions, as well as Play Sport sessions. Find out more about your membership at teamsurrey.co.uk/membership

How much time do I need to commit when joining a club? Can I play more than one sport?

It's really up to you! You will never be pressured into taking part in everything. Some students are lucky enough to be able to play more than one sport and balance their commitments.

Does it matter if I have never played the sport before?

Not at all! Regardless of whether you are a first timer in a sport, or you are an Olympic champion, we would always welcome you into Team Surrey! University is about new experiences and developing your skills. Regardless of your abilities, get stuck in!

Can I play sport recreationally rather than competitively?

Absolutely! Many clubs have sessions for people who don't want to commit to regularly and simply want to have fun and meet new people. Check out our Play Sport sessions at teamsurrey.co.uk/playsport

Is there financial support for those who play sport at a high-level?

The University of Surrey offers range of support schemes for talented athletes who wish to fulfil their sporting and academic potential at the same time, including financial incentives. Find out more about our High Performance Athlete Support Scheme here.

Can I try out a sport before I join a club?

Absolutely! Attend Active Freshers' Fair at the end of Freshers' Week, where you can meet all of our clubs and take part in taster sessions before you join. You can also speak to a club at any point of the year to take part in a training session without the commitment.

Do I have to own the kit?

Some clubs have their kit provided for you but you will have to return these at the end of the season. Some clubs require you to purchase kit yourself which you are then free to keep. Speak to your club beforehand to find out. Team Surrey leisurewear is available for everyone to purchase.

Do clubs organise social events?

Most of our clubs organise their own socials and many get together to make them bigger and better! Whether it is a night out on the town, a weekend trip within the UK or a tour abroad, our clubs certainly like to have fun! We also have Colours Ball at the end of the season, where all of the clubs come together, get dressed up and celebrate a successful year of Team Surrey action.
